Daisy was born in Colorado, but has lived off and on in Arkansas for
most of her life. When she was fourteen, she discovered oil painting
and even sold her work at a local hardware store near Huntsville. When
she was a child, she was fascinated by her grandmother’s china
painting. She finally took a couple of courses in china painting when
she was living in Alabama. Daisy has been a china painter for over
twenty years and she has definitely excelled in this medium. She won
a blue ribbon at a Tennessee china painter’s convention in 1986
and has held elected positions in china painting organizations in Tennessee
and New Mexico. Daisy still produces lovely china painted vessels for
Terra Studios.
Daisy not only paints on
pottery, but also creates her own sculptures. In 1993, she started
to design her own clay sculptures and sold them in a gallery in Los
Cruces, New Mexico. When she moved back to Arkansas, she took a hand
building class with her sister, Marilyn Rodgers, at Terra Studios.
She loved the class so much that she started to sell her hand built
creations along with her china painted vessels in our gallery. Daisy
says she loves to make “Endangered Species From Other Worlds”,
which is a specialty at Terra. She also creates wonderful clay bird
houses just like her sister. Daisy says that creating artwork makes
her happy and she loves to see people’s faces light up when
they see her work. |
